Abraham "Bram" Stoker sa narodil v roku 1847 v Irsku počas strašného hladomoru. Otec Drakulu bol tretím zo siedmich detí úradníka s holandskými predkami. Stoker je autorom viac ako dvadsiatich titulov. V jeho románe Hadí priesmyk nájdeme predobraz grófa upíra a prvý variant lovca upírov Helsinga. Dnes je jeho knižný horor Dracula v zlatom fonde svetovej literatúry a známy v štyroch tisícoch knižných adaptácií. Knihu Dracula považujú kritici za poslednú ozvenu gotických románov hrôzy.
